Stretching over a 2 kilometer distance, the Mahogany Man-Made Forest is located along the Loboc and Bilar town borders. Mahogany trees densely populate the forest, which makes it a magnificent kaleidoscope of green shrubbery. Even with that, however, you may wonder what makes this forest so special amongst others. What’s so special about a place full of trees and plants, at a time when ecotourism seems to be everywhere?

The uniformity in height of the gigantic trees makes this forest one of a kind. Not only the height, but even the spread of the branches as well as their thickness and the design of the leaves all remain the same too. It seems like nature along with the help of mankind built an army of trees that stand, look and breathe alike. Seedlings are also plentiful around the older trees. Young and thick trunks grow magnificently straight up to sky, which is mostly masked by the thick canopy of growth and foliage.

There is only one main road that encompasses the entire forest and both ends of the road head upwards. Visitors claim that they do not know how high the landscape goes as all you can decipher are Mahogany trees that look like thousands of lookouts standing erect and guarding the road. More and more brown trunks stretch from the earth growing towards the green canopy above it. No other vegetation grows amongst the vast setting except for the Mahogany trees themselves, which makes this forest a unique display of natural conformity.

Now if looking up to the green awning of the forest isn’t enough to amaze you, looking down will surely astonish you as well. The roots of the Mahogany trees look startling as they protrude from the ground and crawl over the boulders and contours of the land. Some of them even reach to the sides of the roads. Staring at them may become alluringly disturbing as you start to imagine scenes from a Lord of the Rings movie where the roots of the trees seek passersby as captives. No matter how far your imagination takes you, the Man-Made Mahogany Forest will be sure to take you to a world of its own.

Upon entering the dense forests, visitors will instantly notice the change in temperature, especially during the hot summer season. Humid and hot climates surround the forested area, but a cool and fresh breeze refreshes visitors mainly due to the overhanging trees above. The mountain area seldom sees the sun shine upon it as rains typically occur here. Many groups of families and friends hike through the woods and up to the mountain top. Mountain bikers, on the other hand, made use of the wide asphalt road along with daily public transports that route between the towns of Loboc and Bilar.

The Mahogany Man-Made Forest lures in visitors of all kinds as it provides a picturesque backdrop from the road many tourists travel. Many directors have even chosen the forest as a backdrop to some of their action films, which only proves how ideal the façade can be. The Mahogany Forest remains a beautiful Bohol tourist attraction that is surely not one to miss.
