Tourists travel all the way to Bohol usually to see one main attraction: the Chocolate Hills. But what will the magnificent hills be without a proper viewing deck? Luckily, the Sagbayan Peak provides the ultimate view of the famed Chocolate Hills in all their mouth-watering wonder.
The Sagbayan Peak is a mountain resort and recreation center that offers a 360-degree perspective of the famous Chocolate Hills of Bohol. Furthermore, it also gives a great view of the distant blue sea that separates Bohol from the Cebu Island. The viewing deck has captured the hearts of many nature-loving tourists for its breath-taking view of nature.
The resort is situated on a five-hectare property on one of the many mountain tops. Aside from the breath-taking view that guests will never get tired of, the resort offers a variety of facilities for its visitors as well. Upon entering the resort, an open-sided chapel welcomes those who are in faith with open arms.
Now if the view isn’t enough to keep you occupied, a screen-enclosed structure that houses tarsiers can be found right beside the ticket booth of the viewing deck. Filled with plants and branches, these smallest primates in the world live inside the cage and are on display for visitors’ viewing pleasure. Tourists can opt to enter the tarsier sanctuary if they are willing to abandon their photographer’s fingers at the entrance: taking pictures is highly prohibited as it may disturb and stress out the delicate creatures. It is said that pictures with flashes and disturbing noises can cause so much stress to the little animals that it may eventually lead to their death.
Head on up the stairway and find yourself greeted by a 10-foot-tall and 19-feet-long T-rex dinosaur. Situated on a plateau, the life-size dinosaur is extremely fearsome to look at. Other characters that are scattered around the area include cartoon figures such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, and Snow White and, of course, the Seven Dwarves. Families and friends can opt to lounge at the tables and chairs in the pavilion to munch on their afternoon snacks or even enjoy lunch picnics. Stop by the butterfly dome or let the little kids play in the middle of the grassy field while you do your shopping for native delicacies and products at the nearby flea market. Café Baudillo is also open for dining and provides sumptuous drinks and meals.
For the main attraction of the peak, go down a short flight of stairs and slowly go up a small hill to arrive at the massive 360 degree viewing deck that overlooks the beautiful landscape. Nothing less than the spectacular is what you should expect from the awe-inspiring view you will find there.
The peak is located in the town of Sagbayan, which is about 45 miles northwest of Tagbilaran City. It is about 10 miles from the Chocolate Hills Complex of the town of Carmen, which is about an hour-and-a-half’s drive away. Compared to the viewing area of the Carmen complex, the peak in Sagbayan is significantly spacious, less crowded and provides ample parking space for private vehicles. An entrance fee of 10 pesos is required for every person in order to enter the park. Once there, you may gaze at nature at its best and discover why the Sagbayan Peak is truly the picture-perfect place to complete your Bohol trip.
