Aside from the Chocolate Hills, the white sandy beaches of the Panglao Island, the small and delicate creatures called tarsiers, the double barrier reef, and the caves of Jagna, Danao and Carmen, Bohol also has Catigbian, home of the Behind the Clouds.

The attractions found in Catigbian range from being a result of Mother Nature to being constructed by mankind. In the past years, attractions in the town were practically unheard of, especially from outside of the town proper. It turns out that most of the attractions in Catigbian were the town’s best-kept secrets as they have remained the favorite places of local inhabitants for many years. More and more people continue to visit the town of Catigbian as visitors take pleasure in the unique local practices and activities of the town.

One main attraction of Catigbian is the site called Behind the Clouds, which was deeply hidden in the inaccessible narrow valleys near the town of Catigbian. The place was the ultimate cradle of the resistance movement during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines. A group of courageous men that were mostly disbanded and surrendered soldiers started the organization of the guerilla to free the locals from oppression. This was later moved to the town of Carmen as the original encampment remained as a prisoner’s camp.

Aside from the historical attractions of the town, Catigbian offers the newly developed Magic Green Nature Park where visitors can be one with nature. Located in Baranggay Haguilanan, both locals and tourists will get to experience peace and serenity while being surrounded with lush green woods and the simple chirping of the birds around them.

For those who are more at ease with water, take a refreshing dip beneath the swirling and cascading waters of the Ilaud Falls located at Baranggay Hagbaaya. The town of Catigbian is home to many caves that tourists can visit such as the Cantalina Cave, the Candumayao Cave, the Haguilanan Cave, the Bongbong Cave and of course the Hagbuaya Cave and creek.

But more than what Catigbian’s nature has to offer, the town is also home to good economic opportunities. In fact, the town was declared to have the best market in the entire province of Bohol back in 2008. Catigbian was also hailed to have the biggest auction center for livestock in the region such as cattle, carabaos, goats and hogs. The local government continues to strive for the better development of the town proper and to further uplift the economic situation of its inhabitants.

Finally, as each town looks forward to one grand festival every year, Catigbian celebrates the Katigbawan Festival that duly commemorates the deep traditional and cultural heritage as well as the beliefs and practices of the people of Catigbian. The entire town looks forward to June 17 of every year in one colorful and hilarious town affair.

Catigbian attraction’s such as the site of Behind the Clouds and the Catigbian market should be on the top of your list before doing anything else in the province of Bohol. These attractions will indeed make your stay in Bohol much more memorable.
