One of the more popular municipalities of Bohol is Loboc, what with its many different tourist attractions of both natural and man-made structures. But most of Loboc tourists look forward the most to a particular experience to be found here, one of the most unique experiences provided by the town: a river cruise along the scenic Loboc River.
Each floating restaurant on this ride can hold to about 20-25 persons. The boat ride begins at the Loay Bridge, which is about 24 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. The large bamboo raft flows through the river by use of a motorboat maneuver and from then on, the sumptuous buffet begins.
The buffet offers an extensive selection of the tastiest native dishes around. For only 250 pesos per person, visitors will be able to have a taste of a pleasant dining experience in style. Dishes such as soup, grilled seafood of prawns, squid and fish, barbecued pork, chicken and vegetables as well as a great variety of fresh fruits make up the entire buffet line. Overflowing coffee and tea is also included in the meal. If being hummed to by the relaxing sound of flowing water is not enough, a small group of local singers also serenades the guests aboard with their folk songs and medley of pop renditions.
Another reason to dine along the river is the breathtaking scenery the entire trip provides. You’ll be able to notice lush greens in every direction of the raft, along with a perfectly blue backdrop of the sky. As the raft continues to go upstream, there is no doubt that travelers will notice how full of life the Loboc River really is.
As you try to indulge into your meal, travelers will be able to see Boholano locals going about their everyday life on small boats and canoes along the stream. Some have their carabaos wading and drinking the fresh river water while local children treat the river as their ultimate playground. Small kids bravely swim from tall coconut trees as they jump into the waterway without a care. If you’re lucky, some child exhibitionist will swim up to the rafts to perform random stunts to amuse tourists even more. Notice how friendly the locals are as they smile and wave to every tourist riding on the restaurant raft as they cross paths. Indeed, it is but a hint of the great hospitality provided by the Boholanos.
The river raft takes about 45 minutes to reach the small waterfall called Balusay, at which place the raft will come to a halt. Tourists aboard will then get to marvel at the scenery even more before the raft turns around and heads on back down the river. The cruise will take less than two hours back-and-forth, which is more than enough time to indulge in your meal and gaze upon the charming sights afforded by this luxurious trip.
The summer season is the best time to set your visit, as it is when the river is clean and green. During the rainy season however, the water turns into a less attractive shade of brown. If you do not mind this, it doesn’t really matter when you decide to visit as the Loboc River always provides a breath of fresh air, a sumptuous feast and a unique experience.
